Farm Worker Injured in Explosion Wins Compensation
A farm worker, who was injured in an explosion at work, is reported to have now received compensation.
Arek Kuchczynski was working at a fruit and vegetable farm in Taunton when the explosion happened in May 2011. He and four colleagues had been tasked with undertaking maintenance on a tank of compressed air at Cantelo Nurseries in Isle Abbotts, Somerset.
Mr Kuchczynski suffered serious injuries when the tank of compressed air unexpectedly exploded. He was rushed to hospital where he was treated for first-degree burns. The burns were so severe that they needed skin grafts to help heal. Mr Kuchczynski also suffered head injuries in the incident, and spent weeks in hospital recovering.
Sadly, a fellow worker – Peter Sidney James – died from injuries he sustained in the blast.
Now, the Western Gazette is reporting that Mr Kuchczynski has received compensation for the injuries he sustained. He still works and lives at the farm where the incident took place, and tells the paper that he is pleased to be able to put the incident behind him.
The figure of compensation awarded has not been reported, although it is thought to be a six-figure sum.
